Operation Eyesight Universal (OEU) is a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to the eradication of blindness in developing
countries. OEU funds blindness prevention and treatment programs for people in greatest need. It has made eye care
services accessible and affordable to more than 24 million people in South Asia, Africa and South America.
The Winnipeg Metropolitan Committee coordinates the program for Branches in the city. It arranges for the shipment of the glasses
to Calgary where they are sorted and forwarded to their final destination. They will eventually be worn by someone who needs
that prescription.
St. James Legion has been one of the best supporters of the program. Our members have been donating an average of more than 150 pairs
of glasses to Operation Eyesight each year for the past ten years. I want to thank everyone who has donated their old eye glasses to the program.  People
in developing countries will benefit from your gifts.
For those members who may not be aware of the program I urge you to consider donating your old prescription eye glasses. There is a
collection box at the front door to the Branch.
